Thomson and Thompson

The Roxy hosted a Tintin festival last weekend and along with the film component, there was also a wacky skit for the kids in which adult actors brought the animated characters to life. Here we have two lovely ladies as Thomson and Thompson, world's greatest detectives, in the process of solving the mystery du jour. Admission was by donation and all proceeds went to the Gabriola school library.

Nice shot and lighting; was it a 'posed' studio type shot?

John, this was captured in the moment. The lighting was a mix of indoor stage lighting and (on the right) window light. The actors were standing in front of the screen on which the films were shown. The light and the background combined to give the picture a studio look but it's definitely a "real time" photo. Canon 40D with 50mm lens (effective focal length 80mm).

Gorgeous light and tonal range. I was going to ask you what you shot this with but you already answered the question. The detail is so fine. Were you using the Canon 50mm f1.8 lens? It produces a wonderful clarity.

Canon 50mm 2.5 macro which is also the lens I use for my TTV stuff. The only other glass I have for the 40D is a 24mm f2.8. Both are pretty pedestrian but they are lightweight, relative fast compared to zooms and suit my purposes. I'm looking for an old 35mm f2.0 Pentax M42 screwmount which I'll be able to use w/ an adapter. Ditto for a screwmount 105.

Oh you and Bob.......... I can't keep up with the techie stuff. May I attempt to impress you both with my new anticipated purchase? 18-200mm lens. I'm so pumped. I missed so much inParis because I didn't have enough zoom to get those street portraits from afar etc. I'm sure you both are thinking BLAH! Ha Well I"m happy as a clam. And Snap, this portrait is superb. THe lighting knocks my socks off!
