Sunday Signage > 390

This homeowner is a swimmer so her street number sign is a cresting ocean wave, hand-carved and painted by a local artisan of course.

There's something a bit odd here. Months of reading your blog have led me to see Gabriola as a laid-back place, deliberately apart from all the strictures of mainland society. Yet, it seems very orderly. Every building has a proper number to identify it. Many of the signs are expressed artfully, like this one, but they define a place in a larger structure.

Bob, We're all afraid of fire here on this tinder box island so we have our addresses prominently displayed for the volunteer fire fighters! Just kidding! Sort of. Actually, it's probably so many artists looking for outlets. And now the Arts Council had sponsored an address sign contest, so more are going up everywhere. I think the idea for the contest stemmed from all of Snapper's photos of the existing ones, but he'd blush and say, "Aww...no...I doubt it!" I happen to know several members of the Arts Council look at his blog regularly though....

cheers,
Mrs. Snapper

Well I hope EVERYONE in the Gab is looking at Snap's fine blog each and every day. It's enough to make us all purge our #$%& and pack up just what we need and move there.

I like that car in the background. REminds me of an old timey station wagon. The signage is cool too.
