Photo Op at The Clinic

Folks gathered for a group photo today at the new clinic. The building is almost complete and it's all been done with locally-raised funds and volunteer labor. This is what's possible when a community really works on every level. Bruce Mason (standing, far right with camera) is writing a book about this amazing endeavour so stay tuned for details on that. Thanks to every single person who has contributed to the realization of this collective dream.

Walk for Water and Wellness

Gabriola is an island of activists and they start young around here. Today, the grade 6/7 class at the elementary school sponsored a walk/parade complete with brass band as a fundraiser. They aim to collect $1500 to build a clean water well for a village in Haiti. The students, teachers, parents and band made the loop from the school to the post office and back around via Lockinvar past the village and back to campus. Way to go kids!

ABC Wednesday > I is for Inclement

First it was rain, then snow, now rain again. Altogether a very messy day, one best spent in front of the woodstove.

Bathing Beauties at Berry Point

It's a well-documented fact that Canadians are hardier than Americans. Case in point: On the day this photo was taken, I (a transplanted Tennessean) was wearing a tee shirt, step-ins, wool socks, jeans, a corduroy shirt, a down vest, a heavy field coat, hiking boots and a toque. These girls were wearing, well, considerably less. So there ya go.
