ABC Wednesday > O is for Old-Time

Mark Twain's definition of a gentleman: A man who knows how to play the banjo but doesn't

Believe it or not, there is a small group of Gabriolans who meet once a month to listen and learn to play old-time clawhammer banjo. The music has traveled a long way from the Blue Ridge mountains.

Perfect Pitch - the ability to chuck a banjo into a Dumpster from 20 yards.

Lovely pic.

wow, that must be fun! I'm not sure if I've ever heard the banjo being played in person.
great O post for today.

I'd love to be able to play the banjo though I guess it's fairly limited as a solo instrument.
I like your 'Nobody Home' photo, too - what caused the interruption in the task of sweeping up the leaves? A pause for a cup of tea or coffee, the phone ringing - who knows?

Love the wit in both the post and the comments. The sepia adds to an already enchanting composition, Snapper.

And old-timey looking, too. I assume the sepia was a deliberate choice. You would enjoy meeting my friend Peter from Seattle, the person who told me about CDPB. He's a lawyerin', banjo pickin', photo takin' fool.

Steve Martin makes playing the banjo look quite cool!

Steve Martin was in the area (Troy, NY) last week, not to tell jokes but to play the banjo.

Love the Mark Twain quote, but actually I rather like banjo music - played properly, that is!
