Gavin's Hands

Gavin Molloy playing the banjo during the shoot we did for his family band, The Molloys. Except for the photo of their hands on the neck of the bass, there wasn't much staging. They just played everything in sight (piano, guitars, banjo, harmonicas and as you'll soon see even a thumb piano) while I snapped away taking advantage of both their spontaneity and the gorgeous natural light in their living room.

Snapper, this is gorgeous. I love the gradient of focus, crisp in the front, fading to soft in the back.
Does that make sense, or have I already exceeded my daily caffeine limit?

This is beautiful. I love musical instruments shots, and the anonymity of this picture is incredibly appealing. Every detail is sharpened by the b/w choice, and the player's gentle grasp on the neck and frets shows great care for the instrument and the music. I love this.

You live in an incredible space, Snapper. Twenty three of these now! Just gorgeous. Do you have them catalogued in their own album any where? I would love to be able just to float through them one after the other ...

Hey, Julie.
Snapper's off running around today, probably taking more pics! But here's a link to his musicians photos http://tinyurl.com/mob2cd If the link doesn't work for some reason, try the Snapper's Flickr link under the links on the right hand side of this page.
