Oddshots Monday > Tin Bass

This photo has a fair amount of oddness about it. For starters, there's the listing perspective (made possible by a flipout viewscreen). Then there's the fact that my pal made this two-stringed acoustic bass out of a trash can and some scrap lumber. And he's playing jazz on it with a fiddle bow. The rope is a strap so he can use it in a marching band setting (he came walking up my driveway thumping out the bass line from Sunshine Of Your Love). But what I really like about this image is the look on his wife's face. They've been married a long time and she loves him still, not despite his eccentricities but because of them. This would make a fine picture to post on Valentine's Day but I can't wait that long.

I must really be getting old and soft. Your lovely commentary brought tears to my eyes! Oh how I wish your buddy would come strolling up my driveway playing that wonderful instrument. I want to hear it too! Great photo. The friendship shines through.
PS My BW image today is dedicated to you , my monotone friend. :)

You and your friend would have enjoyed a street band I always looked forward to hearing whenever I was in Freetown, Sierra Leone. They played near the ferry terminal and all their instruments were made from old car parts. The guy who played the muffler was fantastic.

The narrative really puts the scene in context. It's such a loving image but not sickly sweet. I miss street music here along with artistic get togethers. enjoy your monochromes best. You can tell it's your forte and the pleasure it gives you to take them. It shines through.

Odd but a fine invention -- I agree with his wife that he's a keeper.

Pardon moi for the faux pas! I meant monochrome, not monotone! No reflection on your friend's music or your photographs I can promise. I need to drink more coffee in the morning before I start bloggin'. Yee Gads!
