Oddshots Monday > Up A Tree

I climb this arbutus tree once a month or so, just because I can. Arbutus lose their bark naturally as they grow and the bare wood feels amazing under hand as you scale the branches. The photo was made from the place where I usually stop which is about 40-50 feet up. Any higher would make Mrs. Snapper nervous. I don't usually stay too long because there's no comfortable perch at that height but there's a nice crook to rest in on the way down so sometimes I hang out there for a while. I have seen eagles from this tree and maybe someday one will cruise right over my head, just above the treetops.

More Oddshots from around the world over at Katney's place. Look on the righthand side of her front page.

HQ for Monochrome Monday is here

Today, GDP topped 4000 visitors and I'd like to thank everyone who has stopped by and especially those who've taken the time to leave a comment. Much appreciated.

You must be quite agile to climb this. ;-) Neat shot.

EG, my wife says (and I'm paraphrasing here) that I "move pretty good for an old guy". Ha! I'm only 56 so I figure I've got quite a few more tree climbing years left in me.

Your like a young kid watching without being seen. Or a cat.
You made a great picture from your observation tower.
Thanks for sharing your secret.

Read "You're" and not "your", of course. That's what happens when one doesn't read again after writing : )

Your tree is unusual looking to me and I like the view but I'll leave the climbing to someone else.

I can't remember ever climbing a tree, so I'm impressed, old man! :-) I'd be up there too, if I had the confidence.

56 years young! I like the fcat you climb the tree once a month. Surely that's a sane thing to do! It's my knid of odd mono but the tree does look like, it's as we say, here"flicking the v's." Translation sticking two fingers up at the world.

When I first glanced at the thumbnail I thought this might be a rack of antlers. Which made me think of Sarah Palin. Which made me uncomfortable.

Apparently I'm just two years older than you but I would as soon climb a tree as swim across the Mississippi. My loss, perhaps.

Many thousands more visitors to come. Your work is worth the attention.

It looks quite naked without its bark!

Congrats on the the 4000 visitor mark. Love the tree shot. I have tried a bunch of time for tree shot and found it hard to make them interesting,. Looks like I should have climbed higher.
