Buried

Here we have a this-is-what-it-looked-like snapshot of Sunday's snowfall but today's post is as much about the text as it is the image.

Back in Tennessee, we lived at 1800' elevation and winters there were pretty cold for the South. Once we'd committed to moving to Gabriola, we started monitoring the weather so we'd know what to expect in our new home. We kept track of the temps for two full years prior to packing the big yellow truck and what we discovered was that winters on Gabriola are actually milder than those we experienced in Tennessee. The thing is, nobody would believe us! I can't tell you how many times we heard "Oh, you're going to freeze to death up there" at which point we'd calmly present the meteorological data we'd collected only to be scoffed at by our Southern pals. There was one fellow in particular, our plumber, who was totally convinced that our real estate agent had pulled a fast one on us and we were going to discover a frozen wasteland instead of the Shangri-la we'd been describing. Now, I seriously doubt he knows about this blog but Donnie, if you're reading this, don't even be tempted to say "I told you so" because of one slightly snowy photograph!

But doesn't this photo illustrate how so many Americans view Canada in general?

Thanks for your comment on the ice skaters. I can't ice skate either. Or ski, play golf or tennis, or probably chew gum and walk at the same time. However, my clumsiness does not interfere with my ability to use my right eye and right index finger together.

I enjoyed your comment. Bob.

Snapper, it is the contrasts in weather that make it enjoyable. This is why I enjoy the rain in Sydney so very much - we do not get enough of it. Yet, we have a girl at work, just off the plane from Montreal, who was devastated when it rained for her first three days here!

Nice photo ... especially the dash of red ...

Donnie the Plumber! That's great Snap. Well if Donnie can't say it I can, " I told you you'd freeze your ninnies off up there at the North Pole!" Buried indeed, but that cute little Canadian flag just makes it. It's going to , make that "fixin to" be in the LOW 70's here tomorrow. Maybe I'll loll around the pool and work on my tan!

PS even birds have enough sense to come south for the winter.

is Donnie any relation to Joe the Plumber?
it's right wet right now in East TN. but even though the water's risin', I wouldn't trade it for snow.

Apart from the length of the day and the low sun in winter, we would not know we are on the same latitude as Labrador. Thanks to the so-called Gulf Stream the far edge of Europe is mild enough if wet and stormy at times.

You can't fool me. That photo was shot in Tennessee. Conspiracy by a local Tennessee plumber. Question is: Where in Tennessee did he buy that Canadian flag?
