Last year, Ken Capon organized a group called Help The Kelp to begin restoring the kelp beds that once flourished around Gabriola. Last week, they were out again, doing a more localized seeding. Ken's smiling here but believe me, it was darn chilly on the water!
The annual bird count was last week but the numbers were on the low side due to high winds. Our team heard way more birds than we actually saw and most of the other twitchers reported the same.
Wishing everyone everywhere a happy and peaceful new year. Today, photo bloggers around the world are asked to select their best picture from last year for a one-off repost. I don't know about "best" but here is my favourite image from 2010, originally posted on September 1st. I guess what I like most about this one is that it has a bit of a timeless quality. It might easily have been taken in the 1930s. And of course, the little girl is very beautiful but not all smiley and posing for the camera as kids often do these days. The image was taken in the allotment gardens at The Commons.
