Jam Session
Lots of jams going on around the island this summer. This one leaned towards the bluegrass end of the musical spectrum with a classic Martin D-18 leading the way.

Angelic Naomi
Naomi Beth Wakan reading her work at Poetry Gabriola's recent annual general meeting. Interestingly, "wakan" means sacred in Lakota (Sioux).

Clover Point Drifters
Victoria's Clover Point Drifters came through The Roxy last month, playing two sets of uniquely west coast bluegrass to a packed house. At the post gig party, the guitar player asked me if I'd enjoyed the show and (quoting Riley Puckett) I told him it was "ragged but right" which was the highest compliment I could've payed. Their repertoire was inspired, eclectic and inventive within the genre. My fave? A knocked out version of Randy Newman's Rider In The Rain.

Another Classic
A couple of weeks ago, I posted a beautiful old Jaguar roadster and today we have this gorgeous Austin Healey 3000. Only 42,926 of these were produced between 1959 and 1967. Nice, eh?

Poetry Happens
Snapped through the window of the new Mad Rona coffee shop during last night's Poetry Gabriola annual general meeting. Seems the financial report inspired this fellow to jot down a verse or two...

Odd Sighting
This is not the first time I've found unusual things in the woods, oddly out of place and begging the questions who and why?

Canada Day
Today's a day for taking it easy, and also a day for gratitude. We live in a country with good education and good health care, two things many many people in this world don't have.
