Photo Op

Looks like the photographer from The Sounder just couldn't resist the canine charm of this curly-haired pooch.

Sunday Signage > Ferry Fare

Tickets for the ferry are sold on the Nanaimo side and this sign was on the Gabriola side so I don't know how the person made out.

It's not every day you see a woodshed with a window box for flowers

Helping The Kelp

Last year, Ken Capon organized a group called Help The Kelp to begin restoring the kelp beds that once flourished around Gabriola. Last week, they were out again, doing a more localized seeding. Ken's smiling here but believe me, it was darn chilly on the water!

Whose Goose?

The last of the infamous three on Harrison Way. Locals, does anyone know who owns this goose? Has it been abandoned and does it need a home?

Snow = Quiet

Gabriola was pretty quiet today, due to a hefty overnight snowfall and a twelve-hour power outage.

Twitcher on Easthom Road

The annual bird count was last week but the numbers were on the low side due to high winds. Our team heard way more birds than we actually saw and most of the other twitchers reported the same.

Global Theme Day > Best of 2010

Wishing everyone everywhere a happy and peaceful new year. Today, photo bloggers around the world are asked to select their best picture from last year for a one-off repost. I don't know about "best" but here is my favourite image from 2010, originally posted on September 1st. I guess what I like most about this one is that it has a bit of a timeless quality. It might easily have been taken in the 1930s. And of course, the little girl is very beautiful but not all smiley and posing for the camera as kids often do these days. The image was taken in the allotment gardens at The Commons.
