Bob's Cove

This place isn't really called Bob's Cove but my buddy lives here so that's how I think of it.

Could Be A Painting

Maybe a watercolour? I'm surprised one of our local artists hasn't rendered this. Or maybe they have.

Halloween

Saw lots of good costumes today but the scariest was the zipper face at the pharmacy. Yikes!

Sunday Signage > Ken

This afternoon, Gabriola bid farewell to our dear friend Ken Capon who passed away two weeks ago today. Ken was the most community-minded person I've ever met and today the community remembered him with stories and songs, laughter and tears, food and fellowship and love. He'll be sorely missed and fondly remembered by one and all. Here are some photos of the event by fellow photographer Bill Pope.

ABC Wednesday > O is for Outhouse

The view from inside my friend's new outhouse. She's running a straight pipe into her septic which is definitely not old school.

Kelly's Bench

Yesterday afternoon, Gabriolans gathered at the labyrinth at The Commons to honour our friend Kelly Berthelot who passed away suddenly last summer. She was only 22 years old when she left us but her energy, spirit and love of life continue to inspire the community she left behind. This beautiful bench was carved by master artist Rick Cranston from a red cedar that came from Nathan Tinkham's place. A maple tree was planted just beside the bench and both will welcome all who visit the spot.

Sunday Signage > There's no place...

There's no place like this place. The sign is for the old Roxy which is sorely missed by all. But one might also say "there's no place like this place" about Gabriola.

Another Model A Ford

The Model A I posted the other day was a coupe with a rumble seat. This is a beautifully restored sedan. If you don't look too closely at the gas pumps at the left edge of the frame, this photo might've been taken fifty years ago though not on Gabriola.
